Sink inside or separate?

Is it better to get a sink inside the toilet or a separate station?

A separate hand-wash station serves more people faster: its 2 sinks wash 2 people at once, outside the toilet, while the next guest uses the restroom. A sink inside the toilet serves 1 person at a time but gives privacy. Of 9 callers who asked about hand washing, 6 first asked for a sink inside the toilet.

How many

How many hand washing stations do I need?

Plan 1 hand washing station for every 2 toilets whenever food is served, with a minimum of 1. That is our house rule. So 2 toilets need 1 station, 3 toilets need 2, and 7 toilets need 4. Always round up. Jobsites and farms follow OSHA rules, covered below, instead of the event rule.

Brandon Rental Works house rule: 1 hand-wash station per 2 toilets when food is served, minimum 1, rounded up.

Worked example: 120-guest graduation party, 5 hours, with food

  1. 120 guests ÷ 35 per unit (4–8 hours) = 3.4, round up to 4 toilets.
  2. Accessible: at least 1 of the 4 for a public venue.
  3. Food served: 4 toilets ÷ 2 = 2 hand-wash stations.
  4. Place 1 station by the toilets and 1 near the food line.

Kids' parties

Do I need a hand washing station for a kids' party?

A kids' party is one of the best uses for a hand washing station. Children touch everything, eat with their hands and often skip sanitizer. A 2-sink station lets 2 kids wash at once without going into the toilet, and the foot pumps mean no handles to grab. At about 35 inches wide, it fits most backyard gates.

  • Put it between the toilet and the food. Kids pass it on the way back.
  • Keep it on level ground so it does not rock when kids pump the pedals.
  • Point it toward the party, so parents can see who is washing.
  • Bounce houses and pools: place the station where wet feet will not track into the toilet.
From a real call. A parent planning a backyard birthday with lots of kids first asked for a toilet with a sink inside. The order ended as 1 standard porta potty plus 1 separate hand-wash station, so kids could wash without tying up the toilet.

Food events

Do food events need a separate hand washing station?

Any event that serves food should have at least 1 separate hand washing station, under our rule of 1 station per 2 toilets. Guests wash before they eat, without waiting on a restroom. Caterers and food trucks may have their own health-permit hand-wash rules, so ask your caterer or permit office what their setup must include.

  • Cookouts, fish fries and barbecues: place a station near the serving table.
  • Church outreach and food giveaways: one station at the start of the line.
  • Festivals and markets: spread stations along the food row, not just at the toilets.
We do not give health-code advice. Food vendor rules come from your local health authority and permit office. We supply the stations and place them where you tell us. For City of Denton park events, the site map must show restroom locations.
Jobsites & farms

Does OSHA require a hand washing station on a jobsite?

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(f) requires adequate washing facilities near the work for construction crews applying paints, coatings, herbicides or insecticides, or working with other harmful contaminants. The washing facilities must let workers remove those substances. Farm field work follows OSHA 1928.110: 1 toilet and 1 hand-washing facility per 20 workers, within a quarter-mile walk.

Read the rule text at OSHA 1926.51 Sanitation. This is a summary, not legal advice. Your safety officer or general contractor decides what your site needs.

Toilet counts by crew size are on the OSHA porta potty requirements guide. Jobsite stations get weekly service with the toilet, included in the 28-day rate.

Servicing & placement

How is a hand washing station serviced and placed?

A hand washing station arrives sanitized, filled with about 34 gallons of fresh water and stocked with soap and paper towels. A 1–3 day event needs no refill under normal use. On a 28-day rental, the tech empties grey water, refills fresh water and restocks supplies at every weekly service. Place it on level ground beside the toilets.

  1. Empty the grey-water tank into the service truck.
  2. Sanitize both basins, pedals and the outside of the unit.
  3. Refill fresh water, soap and paper towels.
  4. Check both foot pumps and the drain.

Placement checklist

  • Level, firm ground; about 3 × 3 feet plus room to stand at both sinks.
  • About 70 lb empty, so the crew can carry it to most backyards.
  • Near the toilets, but not blocking any toilet door.
  • A trash can beside it for paper towels.
  • Shade in summer keeps the water cooler for users.
FAQ

Hand-wash station questions

Do you have a separate hand-washing station?
Yes. Our hand-wash station is the PolyJohn Bravo, a freestanding unit with 2 foot-pump sinks, soap and paper towels. It sits beside your porta potties and needs no hose or power. Hand-wash stations are part of our same-day stock in Denton when you call by noon, Mon–Sat.
Should I get a hand-washing station for a kids' party?
Yes, we recommend one. Kids wash up without going in and out of the toilet, which keeps the toilet line moving. Two foot-pump sinks let 2 kids wash at once, and the pedals mean no handles to touch. Put the station between the toilet and the food table.
How much is a hand-wash station?
A 2-sink hand-wash station for an event (1–5 days on site, delivery and pickup in Denton) typically runs $95–$165 before sales tax. When it rides on the same truck as your porta potty, it shares the delivery. Your itemized quote shows each line; see the porta potty cost guide.
Does it need a hose or water hookup?
No. The Bravo carries about 34 gallons of fresh water in its own tank and catches used water in a separate grey-water tank. We fill it at our Denton yard before delivery. You do not need a hose, an outlet or a drain.
Where does the dirty water go?
Used water drains into the station's own grey-water tank, not onto your lawn. We empty and haul it away at pickup or at each service visit. Please do not dump the grey water yourself; just call dispatch if it fills during a long event.
Do I still need one if the toilet already has sanitizer?
For a short party with no food, sanitizer may be enough. Add a hand-wash station when food is served, when kids attend, or when a crew handles paint, coatings or chemicals. Sanitizer does not remove dirt, grease or food the way soap and water do.
Can I get a hand-wash station delivered today?
Usually, yes. Hand-wash stations and standard units are the two units we stock for same-day delivery in Denton and most Denton County ZIPs. Call (940) 275-3799 by noon, Mon–Sat. A same-day fee of $0–$95 may apply, and we quote it before you book.
