Choose the restroom

Which wedding restroom should I rent: deluxe unit, restroom trailer or standard porta potty?

A Denton wedding has 3 main restroom choices: deluxe flushing units with sinks, a restroom trailer, or a mix of both with standard units. A deluxe PolyJohn Fleet needs no power or water hookup. A restroom trailer needs a level spot, 20–30 feet of room and a 120V outlet within 100 feet. Standard units suit staff areas and parking lots.

Sizing

How many wedding porta potties do I need?

A 90-guest, 6-hour wedding with a bar and a mostly-female guest list needs 5 toilets and 3 hand-wash stations under our house method. Start with 1 unit per 35 guests for 4–8 hours, add 1 per 100 guests for alcohol, add 1 per 100 for a mostly-female crowd, then make 1 unit wheelchair-accessible.

Worked example: 90 guests, 6 hours, open bar, dinner served

  1. 90 guests ÷ 35 per unit = 2.57. Round up to 3 units.
  2. The bar serves alcohol, so add 1 unit per 100 guests (minimum 1) = 4 units.
  3. A mostly-female wedding crowd adds 1 unit per 100 guests = 5 units.
  4. 5% of 5 units is less than 1, so the minimum applies: 1 wheelchair-accessible + 4 deluxe units.
  5. Dinner is served: 5 toilets ÷ 2 = 2.5. Round up to 3 hand-wash stations.

Deluxe units already have a sink inside. Many couples still put hand-wash stations by the buffet and bar, so guests do not line up at the restrooms just to wash.

Event porta potty calculator

Method: Brandon Rental Works house rule — 1 unit per 50 guests up to 4 hours, 1 per 35 for 4–8 hours, 1 per 25 beyond 8 hours, always rounded up; accessible count from 2010 ADA Standards §213.2 (5%, minimum 1).

Quick counts

How does a bar or a mostly-female guest list change the wedding restroom count?

A bar adds 1 restroom per 100 guests (minimum 1), and a mostly-female guest list adds another 1 per 100. A 150-guest, 6-hour wedding needs 5 units before adjustments, 7 with a bar, and 9 with a bar and a mostly-female crowd. Every count rounds up, never down.

Our house sizing method. Accessible count follows the 5% per cluster rule in the 2010 ADA Standards §213.2. A restroom trailer can replace several units; ask dispatch how it counts for your guest list.

Guests also using a house bathroom? Tell dispatch. We still size from the method, then talk through what makes sense for your venue. More examples are in the porta potty sizing guide.

Barns & ranches

Can a restroom trailer work at a barn or ranch wedding near Denton?

A restroom trailer works at a barn or ranch wedding when the site has 3 things: a level spot with 20–30 feet of trailer room, a drivable path, and a standard 120V outlet within 100 feet for lights and climate control. Without power or firm ground, deluxe flushing units are the better choice.

  • Power: a barn outlet or a venue pole. Extension cords run across walkways need to be taped or covered.
  • Water: optional. Trailers carry an on-board tank, so a hose hookup is a bonus, not a must.
  • Ground: sandy ranch roads west of I-35 near Krum, Ponder and Argyle can bog a truck after rain. Black clay east of Denton gets slick.
  • Gates: a ranch gate needs about 10–11 feet of width for the truck. Give us the gate code.
  • Address: rural venues without a street address can send a Google Maps pin.
Rain plan: If heavy rain is forecast for drop day, dispatch may suggest a firmer spot near the drive. A firm spot keeps the truck out of soft pasture on setup day.

Timeline

How far ahead should I book wedding restrooms?

Book wedding restrooms as soon as you sign the venue, and at least 2–3 weeks ahead for a peak weekend. UNT and TWU graduation weekends in May and December, the late-April Denton Arts & Jazz Festival and fall UNT football Saturdays sell out first. Trailers and deluxe units are usually next-day stock, not same-day.

  1. When you sign the venue: call with the date, ZIP and expected guest count. Ask about power for a trailer.
  2. As early as you can: pay the itemized invoice in full to hold the units. Date changes are free with 24 hours notice.
  3. 2 weeks out: confirm the final guest count and add units if the list grew.
  4. Week of: mark the spot, send gate codes and an on-site contact (planner or venue host).
  5. Thursday or Friday: delivery in a 4-hour window. The driver texts about 30 minutes ahead.
  6. Monday: pickup. Leave the path clear of rental tables and décor trucks.

Placement

Where should restrooms go at an outdoor wedding?

Wedding restrooms belong between the reception and the parking area, out of the ceremony sightline but within an easy, lit walk for guests. Every unit needs level, firm ground and 3 feet of clear space at the door. A standard or deluxe unit can be hand-carted about 25 feet from the truck.

  • Keep them out of photos. Place units behind a barn corner, tree line or hedge, not behind the arch.
  • Light the path. String lights or lanterns help guests after sunset.
  • Hand-wash stations near the bar and buffet, not only by the restrooms.
  • Accessible unit on the flattest, closest spot, with a firm path. The Comfort XL needs 62 × 62 inches plus door room.
  • Backyard weddings: a 43.5-inch standard unit needs a 48-inch gate; a deluxe unit is 47 inches wide.

More spacing tips are in the porta potty placement guide.

From our call logs
33%

of callers (9 of 27) asked about a sink or hand washing before booking. At a wedding, guests in good clothes expect a sink, so plan deluxe units, hand-wash stations or a trailer.

Accessibility

Do wedding guests need a wheelchair-accessible restroom?

Plan at least 1 wheelchair-accessible restroom at any wedding with older guests or guests who use a wheelchair or walker. For public venues, the 2010 ADA Standards §213.2 call for at least 5% of portable units in each cluster, minimum 1. Our PolyJohn Comfort XL has a 62 × 62 inch floor plan.

  • ModelPolyJohn Comfort XL (PH03)
  • Exterior62" W × 62" D × 91" H
  • Door frame32" W × 74" H
  • FloorGround-level, roll-in, barrier-free sill
  • Weight240 lb

The Comfort XL is wheelchair-accessible and designed to help meet ADA 2010 Standards §213.2 counts. Read the ADA Standards §213 and confirm venue rules with your venue or permit office. Full specs: wheelchair-accessible porta potty.

Grandparents first. Put the accessible unit closest to the reception tables on the firmest ground. Guests with canes or walkers use it too, not only wheelchair users.
FAQ

Wedding restroom questions from Denton couples and planners

Do you do weddings?
Yes. We deliver standard units, deluxe flushing units with sinks, wheelchair-accessible units, hand-wash stations and restroom trailers to weddings at homes, barns and ranches across Denton County. Call (940) 275-3799 with the date, venue ZIP and guest count, and dispatch builds the restroom plan with you.
Is a standard porta potty OK for a wedding?
For guests, a deluxe unit is usually the better fit, because a standard unit has sanitizer but no sink or flush. A standard unit works well for vendors, parking areas and staff. A deluxe flushing unit typically runs $245–$365 per event before tax, versus $165–$245 for a standard unit.
Do the units come with toilet paper, soap and paper towels?
Yes. Every unit arrives stocked with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Deluxe PolyJohn Fleet units also have a sink with soap and paper towel dispensers, and hand-wash stations come with soap and paper towels. For a long reception, ask us to leave extra rolls.
Can we have a trailer for the bridal party and porta potties for guests?
Yes. A mix works well: a restroom trailer near the reception for the bridal party and older guests, plus deluxe or standard units near the dance floor or parking. A weekend restroom trailer typically runs $795–$2,500 before tax. Each item is its own line on the quote.
How far ahead should I book restrooms for a wedding?
Book wedding restrooms when you lock in the venue, and at least 2–3 weeks out for peak weekends. Peak Denton dates, like UNT and TWU graduation weekends in May and December, sell out first. Standard units can sometimes go same-day, but trailers and deluxe units are usually next-day stock.
What if my wedding gets moved or canceled?
Date changes are free with 24 hours notice or more. Cancel 24+ hours before delivery for a full refund. Inside 24 hours, we refund everything except the delivery fee. The full policy is on our rental terms page.
Can the restrooms go behind the barn, away from the ceremony?
Yes, if the truck can reach the spot. Our crew can cart an empty standard or deluxe unit about 25 feet from the truck. Trailers need a drivable path and a level pad. Send a photo or Google Maps pin of the spot, and dispatch confirms it before the wedding week.
