What's the difference between a standard and a deluxe porta potty?
A deluxe porta potty adds 2 things a standard unit lacks: a foot-pump flush and a sink with soap and paper towels. The deluxe PolyJohn Fleet is 3.5 inches wider and about 25 pounds heavier than the standard PJN3. The standard unit adds a urinal and is our same-day stock; the deluxe unit costs more and books a day ahead.
| Feature | Standard (PolyJohn PJN3) | Deluxe (PolyJohn Fleet) |
|---|---|---|
| Flush | No — drops straight to the tank | Yes — foot-pump flush with fresh water |
| Hand washing | Hand sanitizer only | Sink, soap and paper towels inside |
| Urinal | Yes, non-splash | No |
| Width × depth × height | 43.5 × 47 × 91 in | 47 × 47 × 91 in |
| Weight | About 175 lb | About 200 lb |
| Gate needed for backyard placement | At least 48 in | Wider than 48 in — measure first |
| Same-day delivery | Yes, when you call by noon | Usually next-day |
| Water refill | Not needed | Filled before delivery; refilled at each service |
| Price | Lower | Higher (ranges in the FAQ below) |
| Best for | Jobsites, casual parties, ranch work | Weddings, showers, dressed-up backyard parties |
callers asked us to explain standard vs deluxe before they booked. Only 1 of the 4 chose the deluxe flushing unit: a first-time host with about 100 backyard guests.

A flushing porta potty carries its own water. The PolyJohn Fleet has an on-board fresh-water tank that feeds the foot-pump flush and the sink, and a 60-gallon waste tank below. We fill the fresh water at our Denton yard, so the deluxe unit needs 0 hoses, 0 outlets and 0 drains on your property.
- Flush: the guest presses the foot pedal. Water rinses the bowl and waste drops into the holding tank.
- Wash: a second foot pump runs water at the sink. Soap and paper towels sit beside the mirror.
- Refill: on long rentals, the service tech refills fresh water and soap at every weekly visit.
Fresh water is finite. On a heavy-use day, the sink can run low before the waste tank fills. If your event runs more than 1 day with a big crowd, ask dispatch about a service visit between days.
Will a deluxe porta potty fit in my backyard?
A deluxe porta potty is 47 inches wide, so a common 48-inch backyard gate leaves only half an inch on each side. That is too tight for two crew members to cart it safely. A double gate, a wide side gate or a driveway spot works best. Our crew can cart an empty deluxe unit about 25 feet.
- Measure the narrowest point on the path, including fence posts and gate latches.
- Truck access: a path about 10–11 feet wide, with no wires or branches under 12 feet.
- Clear space: about 5 × 5 feet on level ground, plus 3 feet open at the door.
- Text a photo of the spot to (940) 275-3799 and dispatch checks it before delivery.

Is a deluxe porta potty good enough for a wedding?
A deluxe porta potty works well for backyard and barn weddings when you rent the right count. Our sizing rule for a 6-hour wedding is 1 unit per 35 guests, plus 1 for every 100 guests when alcohol is served and 1 more per 100 for a mostly-female crowd. Always round up.
Worked example: 90-guest backyard wedding, 6 hours, with a bar
- 90 guests ÷ 35 (4–8 hours) = 2.6, round up to 3 units.
- Bar: add 1 unit per 100 guests, rounded up = 4 units.
- Mostly female crowd: add 1 per 100 guests = 5 units.
- Public venue: make at least 1 of the 5 a wheelchair-accessible unit.
One sensible mix for that wedding is 2 deluxe units by the reception, 2 standard units nearby and 1 accessible unit. Each deluxe unit has its own sink, so you may not need a separate hand-wash station near the restrooms. Dinner service still benefits from one near the food line.
Deluxe unit by event type
| Event | Good fit? |
|---|---|
| Backyard wedding or vow renewal | Yes |
| Bridal or baby shower | Yes |
| Graduation party with older relatives | Yes |
| Kids' birthday party | Standard + hand-wash station often works better |
| Formal event of 150+ guests with power | Consider a restroom trailer |
| Construction crew | Possible; standard is usual |
Full wedding planning, including trailers and timing, is on our wedding restroom rental page.
When is a deluxe porta potty the wrong choice?
A deluxe porta potty is the wrong choice in 4 cases: you need a unit today, the only path is a 48-inch gate or narrower, a guest uses a wheelchair, or a large crowd needs to wash hands fast. In those cases a standard unit, an accessible unit or a 2-sink hand-wash station serves guests better.
- Same-day need. Our same-day stock is standard units and hand-wash stations.
- Narrow gate. The 47-inch Fleet will not cart through a 48-inch gate safely.
- Wheelchair users. The Fleet is not a wheelchair-accessible unit; rent the PolyJohn Comfort XL.
- Hand-washing lines. One sink inside a stall serves 1 person at a time. A separate 2-sink station serves 2 people at once and frees the toilet.
- Lights, heat and A/C. The Fleet has none. A restroom trailer does, if you have a 120V outlet within 100 feet.
How is a deluxe porta potty cleaned and refilled?
Every deluxe porta potty leaves our Denton yard pumped, washed, sanitized, filled with fresh water and stocked with soap, paper towels and toilet paper. A 1–3 day event needs no mid-event service under normal use. Long-term deluxe rentals get 1 service visit per week, included in the 28-day rate.
- Pump the 60-gallon waste tank and recharge it with deodorizer.
- Refill the fresh-water tank that feeds the flush and sink.
- Scrub and sanitize the bowl, sink, pedals, walls, door handle and floor.
- Restock soap, paper towels and toilet paper, then hang a dated service ticket.
Placement checklist for a deluxe unit
- Level, firm ground: grass, gravel, concrete or asphalt.
- Shade in summer; Denton's July average high is about 96°F.
- Away from the food table, but within sight of the party.
- Not on a sidewalk or street without a right-of-way permit.
- A used unit stays put until it is pumped.
