Which portable restrooms work on an industrial site?

Industrial sites around Denton use 5 portable restroom types: standard PolyJohn PJN3 units for crews, 2-sink hand-wash stations, deluxe units with a sink for office trailers, towable trailer-mounted units for crews that move, and restroom trailers for long shutdowns or shelters. The right mix depends on crew size, power and how often the work area moves.

Shutdowns & turnarounds

How many portable restrooms does a plant shutdown or turnaround need?

Construction and maintenance contractors on a plant shutdown follow OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c) Table D-1: 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers, then 1 seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. A 150-person turnaround needs at least 4 standard units. We suggest 6, plus hand-wash stations, because shift changes and breaks bunch everyone up.

Worked example: 150 contractors, 12-hour shifts, 3 weeks

  1. 150 workers ÷ 40 = 3.75. Round up to 4 seats + 4 urinals = 4 standard units (legal minimum).
  2. Our recommendation: 6 units in 2 banks near the gate and the break tent.
  3. Hand washing: 1 station per bank minimum; more if crews handle coatings or chemicals (1926.51(f)).
  4. Service: 12-hour shifts mean heavy use. Plan 2–3 visits a week, timed between shifts.

Permanent plant restrooms fall under the general industry rule, 29 CFR 1910.141, not Table D-1. Ask your safety manager which rule covers your contractors. Read the OSHA 1926.51 text or our OSHA porta potty requirements guide.

Pipelines & utilities

How do portable restrooms work for pipeline and utility crews that move?

Pipeline and utility crews that move every few days use towable trailer-mounted units or a standard unit at each staging yard, serviced weekly on our route. OSHA 1926.51(c)(4) exempts mobile crews with transportation readily available to nearby toilets. When the nearest restroom is far away, a towable unit keeps 1 toilet with the crew.

  1. Send each staging location as a Google Maps pin or GPS coordinates.
  2. Name a contact per site: the foreman's cell for the driver.
  3. Tow carefully. A used unit should be pumped before a long move; call us and we pump it on the next route.
  4. Text the new pin to (940) 275-3799 each time the crew moves, so service follows.
  5. Call for pickup per unit as each segment finishes.

callers asked for same-day delivery. One was an underground utility crew across a creek with no street address. GPS coordinates and a named on-site contact got the unit there the same day.

Multi-site service

Can you service portable restrooms at several sites for one company?

Yes. Brandon Rental Works services portable restrooms at multiple sites for 1 business, with each site on its own pin, contact and weekly service visit. Every site follows 28-day billing with weekly service included. Business accounts may get invoicing instead of autopay by card.

Site safety

What does your driver need to enter an industrial site safely?

Our driver needs 4 things to enter an industrial site safely: your gate hours and check-in steps, the escort and PPE rules for visitors, a marked drop spot away from forklift and haul traffic, and a truck path about 10–11 feet wide with 12 feet of overhead clearance. Send them before the first delivery.

  • Check-in: guard shack, sign-in sheet, badge or escort requirements.
  • PPE: tell us what visitors must wear on your site, and we note it for the driver.
  • Traffic: keep units out of forklift lanes, loader swing and haul roads.
  • Overhead: conveyors, pipe racks and power lines under 12 feet block the truck.
  • Ground: concrete, asphalt or packed gravel; no soft fill.
  • Wind: open yards catch March–June storms; we stake or strap units on request.

Gravel yards and warehouses

Dust and heat are the two issues. Place units upwind of crushers and stockpiles where you can, and in shade near the scale house or dock. Denton's July highs average about 96°F, so yards with 10+ workers should add a second weekly service in summer.

Warehouse docks: keep the unit off the dock apron so trucks can back in, and leave 3 feet clear at the door.

Servicing

How often are industrial portable restrooms serviced?

Industrial portable restrooms get 1 service visit a week, included in the 28-day rate. Crews of 11 to 20 per unit, 12-hour shifts, dusty yards and summer heat usually need 2 or more visits a week. Each visit pumps the 60-gallon tank, sanitizes the unit, restocks supplies and leaves a dated ticket.

Our recommendation. Unit counts follow OSHA Table D-1 for construction work.
Site conditionVisits per unit we suggest
Up to 10 workers, 40-hr week1× weekly (included)
11–20 workers per unit2× weekly
12-hour shifts or 6-day weeks2–3× weekly
10+ workers, June–September2× weekly
Shelter or 24-hour useDaily
Time service around your shifts. Tell dispatch your shift change and break times. A pump truck in the middle of lunch break slows everyone down.

Jobsite basics

Crew counts, the 28-day cycle and supplier no-shows are covered in depth on the construction site toilet page.

Shutdown timeline

How far ahead should I book restrooms for a shutdown?

Book shutdown restrooms 1–2 weeks before the contractor crews arrive, so units are set and checked before day 1. Standard units and hand-wash stations can go out the same day when you call by noon, Mon–Sat. Restroom trailers and large banks need more notice, usually at least next-day.

  1. 2 weeks out: send peak headcount, shift pattern, site map and gate rules.
  2. 1 week out: approve the itemized quote and service plan per area.
  3. 2–3 days out: mark each bank location; confirm check-in steps for the driver.
  4. During the shutdown: call or text to add units or visits as headcount grows.
  5. Demob: call for pickup by area. Units leave within 1–2 business days.
Do not move used units during demob. A used unit cannot be tipped or loaded until it is pumped. Leave banks in place and we pump and remove them.
Emergency shelters

Can you supply restroom trailers and hand-wash stations for an emergency shelter?

Yes. Brandon Rental Works supplies restroom trailers, standard units and hand-wash stations for emergency shelters. A county emergency management office in our call logs needed restrooms for about 463 evacuees. Shelter use runs all day, so our method of 1 unit per 25 people for events over 8 hours gives a starting count.

Worked example: 463 evacuees, all-day shelter

  1. Our house method for use over 8 hours: 463 ÷ 25 = 18.5. Round up to 19 toilets.
  2. The caller's own planning figure was 1 restroom per 75 people: 463 ÷ 75 = 6.2, or 7 restrooms. They asked for about 4 trailers with 7 restrooms.
  3. Accessibility: at least 5% per cluster, minimum 1 wheelchair-accessible unit at each restroom area.
  4. Hand washing: food is served at shelters, so plan 1 hand-wash station per 2 toilets.
  5. Service: daily, because shelter use does not stop.

Your emergency plan sets the final number; we show both counts so your team can choose. Restroom trailers need a level spot, 20–30 feet of room and a 120V outlet within 100 feet.

Same-day stock in an emergency. Standard units and hand-wash stations are our same-day stock when you call by noon, Mon–Sat. Restroom trailers usually go next day. Start with units today and add trailers as they arrive.

Short-term emergencies

Plumbing outages, septic backups and storm damage at homes and offices are covered on our short-term and emergency rental page.

FAQ

Industrial and emergency restroom questions

How fast can you get restrooms to an evacuation shelter?
Standard units and hand-wash stations can arrive the same day when you call (940) 275-3799 by noon, Mon–Sat. Restroom trailers usually go next day and need a 120V outlet within 100 feet. A shelter can start with units on day 1 and add trailers when they arrive.
How many restrooms per person for a large group?
It depends on how long people stay. Our house method for events over 8 hours is 1 unit per 25 people. One emergency management caller planned on 1 restroom per 75 people for a shelter; that is their figure, not ours. Tell dispatch the head count and hours, and we show both counts so your team can decide.
Do you have toilets on a towable trailer?
Yes. We rent a standard unit mounted on a single-axle trailer for pipelines, road crews and big ranch jobs that move. Your crew tows it to the next work area. It is billed and serviced like any 28-day jobsite unit.
Do you service multiple job sites in another nearby town?
Yes, across Denton County and much of Collin, Dallas and Tarrant County. Each site gets its own pin, contact and weekly service on our route. Give dispatch the list of ZIP codes and we confirm coverage for each.
Can the rental be billed to our company with a PO?
Business accounts may be set up for invoicing; ask dispatch what reference you need on the invoice. Otherwise, the first 28-day cycle is paid upfront by card and later cycles autopay. A standard jobsite unit typically runs $145–$215 per 28 days before tax with weekly service.
Do you rent porta potties for a gravel pit or quarry?
Yes. Gravel pits, quarries and material yards get standard units on 28-day billing with weekly service. Place them on packed ground away from haul roads and loader swing, near the scale house or break area. Yards with 10+ workers should add a second weekly visit in summer.
What do you need to get a truck through our plant gate?
Tell dispatch your gate hours, check-in steps, escort rules, speed limits and any PPE you require for visitors. We put them in the driver notes before the first trip. The truck needs a path about 10–11 feet wide with 12 feet of overhead clearance.
